Five-star college basketball prospect Alijah Arenas, son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, was involved in a serious car crash on Thursday. Alijah was hospitalized and placed into an induced coma.
Alijah had committed to attending USC in the fall. NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN reported the news on social media.

The hope is that Arenas will be able to make a full recovery. This is certainly a very scary situation for all involved, and we all hope that he will be okay.
Basketball is an afterthought in this moment, and our thoughts are with the entire Arenas family.

Alijah committed to going to USC after an impressive high school career at Chatsworth High School in California. During his time in high school, Alijah averaged 31.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

Many see Alijah as a strong offensive threat due to his ability to make all sorts of shots around the court. Arenas is also a good ball-handler, making him very tough for opponents to defend.
The Trojans basketball program has been growing well in recent years, with other former NBA stars’ children attending. Bronny James, the son of NBA star LeBron James, recently played at USC, showing off the appeal of the program.

Alijah’s size, skill, and IQ are all valuable to what USC wants to do on the court. The Trojans value an up-tempo style of play, and Alijah was expected to help them produce it.
The Trojans are coming off a down year in the first season under head coach Eric Musselman. USC finished the season with a record of 17-18, ultimately missing the NCAA Tournament.
