SEATTLE — The Seattle Seahawks host the Kansas City Chiefs at Lumen Field on Friday night for the Week 2 preseason game.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said many starters will see playing time on Friday night, including quarterback Sam Darnold making his debut in Seattle. However, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said key starters, such as defensive tackle Chris Jones, tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, likely won’t take the field.

This opens an opportunity for former Washington State University quarterback Gardner Minshew to see gametime action for the Chiefs.

Friday’s game, along with the team’s final preseason contest, will be televised locally and exclusively on KING 5, the Home of the Seahawks.

This is the Seahawks’ second preseason game, following a 23-23 tie against the Las Vegas Raiders on Aug. 7. There was no bad blood in Seattle as fans showed their love for former Seahawks head coach and current Raiders head coach Pete Carroll during his return to Lumen Field. 

Carroll, 73, coached the Seahawks for 14 years and led the team to its Super Bowl win in 2014.

It’s not known if Taylor Swift, who is dating Travis Kelce, will be in attendance of Friday’s game. The global superstar stepped back into the spotlight earlier this week to announce her 12th album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’ Swift also appeared on Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, which he hosts with his brother Jason Kelce.

It’s going to be a rainy night in Seattle. KING 5 meteorologists say heavier rain is expected to fall Friday afternoon and into the evening. Temperatures will range from the mid-60s to low 70s.

The steady rain will change to off and on showers by early Saturday morning, and the showers should gradually decrease during the day. 

The Seahawks close out the preseason with a trip to iconic Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, Aug. 23, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. PT. This final preseason contest often serves as the last opportunity for players on the roster bubble to make their case before final cuts are made.
