‘Superman’s soulmate?’ Henry Cavill’s take on the Lois Lane vs Wonder Woman question

Henry Cavill had the perfect answer to settle the debate of who is a better soulmate for Superman, Wonder Woman or Lois Lane

Henry Cavill’s casting as Superman is considered one of the best in the superhero genre. Even though he didn’t enjoy a long run, fans loved Cavill’s performance as the Last Son of Krypton.  A series of bad decisions by the studio didn’t let us know his complete story. However, there are several instances where the Enola Holmes actor has proved why he was the best.

While Superman and Lois Lane have been fan favorite and renowned comic book couple for a long time, he has also been linked with Wonder Woman in some storylines. When Henry Cavill was also asked about Superman’s soul mate, his answer proved why he was worthy of helming the role. Instead of taking any side, Cavill handled the situation more carefully and had a mature take.

To date, there have been several iterations of Kal-El on-screen, and similar to Spider-Man, the best portrayal of Superman has also been a hot topic of discussion. While Christopher Reeve has been hailed as the best Superman by many, Henry Cavill has also amassed an astronomical level of fandom.

Besides the appearance and performance of Clark Kent, Henry Cavill’s opinions on the character have also impressed the fans. One of its prime examples was seen when the actor was asked to choose between Lois Lane and Wonder Woman as Superman’s ideal soulmate in an interview with Cosmopolitan.

Henry Cavill approached the situation in a very neutral tone and explained in detail how both relationships affect the life of Superman in different ways. His handling of the question was evident in the fact that he was a better version of the superhero than most others.

“I mean who is better for a super-powered alien, a human or a goddess? Yes, the goddess can do all the normal things, which we would think are normal in a relationship, and not have any fear of Superman. But you also need to have that baseline of humanity, which Lois provides. And literally keeps his feet on the ground, keeps him down to earth. So that’s more of a debate than an answer.”

The Man of Steel star was clever to decode that there isn’t any perfect response and the question was subjective. He claimed that Wonder Woman could love Superman more fearlessly than the others as they had more in common. On the other hand, Lane helps Superman stay close to his humanity which is also extremely important.

Henry Cavill is not the Superman of DCU anymore

David Corenswet is DCU’s new Superman

Even after delivering such a picture-perfect portrayal of the primary superhero of the DC comics, Henry Cavill didn’t get the treatment he deserved. Due to the controversial decisions involving the DCEU, we were left with an incomplete story of Cavill’s Superman. Following the announcement of the new DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran, David Corenswet took over the role.

Although many fans are excited to see Corenswet’s performance as the Kryptonian, he has undoubtedly large shoes to fill. Despite having several qualities of being the perfect Superman, the DCU always deserved it. According to Gunn, the new plans of the DCU needed a younger version of the Last Son of Krypton which resulted in Cavill’s exit.

In the upcoming Superman: Legacy by James Gunn, it is reported that Kal-El’s origin will not be explained anymore. Unlike the other Superman films, it will avoid the origin story and focus on how the character balances his Kryptonian powers along with his human life while working as a reporter in the Daily Planet.
