Hollywood star Henry Cavill is known for his performances in The Witcher and as Superman in the DC Extended Universe. While he has received praise for his exceptional performance, he has also become a fan favorite, considering his commitment to his on-screen roles. The actor has opened up about how he pulled off the role of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, a gaming and book series he is a big fan of.

And he did the same when it came to his DC role as well. After making his debut as Superman in the 2013 film Man of Steel, he reprised his role in Batman v Superman. And he has shared that he took a deep dive into the comic books to reprise his role in the 2016 movie.

Following his 2013 film, Henry Cavil reprised his role in the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Starring Cavill alongside Ben Affleck, the film follows the clash between Batman and Superman. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he opened up about reprising his role three years after his DC debut.

Cavill shared that the process involved diving back into comic books to explore the psychology of the character. He also added that he wanted to apply these insights to his character’s depiction in the movie. The Justice League star shared,

However, despite his dedication to the character, his future in the franchise fell short following his appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. While his cameo in Black Adam hinted at his return, any speculation was put to rest as James Gunn revealed his plans to reboot the franchise.

James Gunn has been working on his DCU since taking over DC Studios in 2022. The filmmaker announced a line-up of TV shows, animated series, and movies in early 2023 and has been working on the first DCU film, Superman: Legacy.

Gunn has shared that he wanted to cast a younger actor for the film. And following Henry Cavill’s abrupt departure, the 30-year-old actor David Corenswet has joined the franchise as Superman. He has been in a range of stage and TV shows, including House of Cards and Elementary.

Corenswet is also known for his work in Netflix’s The Politician and the 2022 film Pearl. The DC superhero is the biggest role of his career, and the actor has been working to bulk up for his big break as the Kryptonian superhero. And despite a certain amount of backlash, there is anticipation over what Corenswet would do with the character.

Superman: Legacy is set to release on 11 July 2025.
