One of the top games of 2024, Balatro, released its Friends of Jimbo 3 update, which brought eight new card skins from various titles for players to enjoy. Some games that are part of the new Balatro crossover update as card skins include Shovel Knight, Warframe, Cult of the Lamb, and Divinity: Original Sin 2.

The new Balatro update was launched amid a busy time for one of the top indie games of 2024. On December 11, Balatro revealed that it had sold over 3.5 million units on all available platforms combined. The total sales milestone for Balatro was helped by the game’s nominations at the 2024 edition of The Game Awards, including Best Debut Indie Game and the coveted Game of the Year award. Other Game of the Year award nominees included Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Black Myth: Wukong, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Just hours before The Game Awards kicked off, Balatro released one of its more ambitious crossover updates. The Friends of Jimbo 3 update for Balatro is now available to download for free on PC, consoles, and mobile devices. Friends of Jimbo 3 brought new card skins featuring characters from eight games. The games that were included in Balatro‘s latest update are Divinity: Original Sin 2, Shovel Knight, Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator, Enter the Gungeon, Cult of the Lamb, Don’t Starve, 1000xRESIST, and Warframe. A short announcement video for the Friends of Jimbo 3 content update was released by Balatro‘s publisher, Playstack, on social media. The trailer featured English actor Ben Starr, who portrayed a live-action version of one of Balatro‘s characters, Jimbo the Joker.

The Friends of Jimbo 3 update launched less than two months after Balatro released the second Friends of Jimbo pack for all platforms. The previous Friends of Jimbo 2 update for Balatro went live in October 2024 and was highlighted by a crossover with Cyberpunk 2077. The other games featured in Friends of Jimbo 2 were The Binding of Isaac, Slay the Spire, and Stardew Valley. Like previous Friends of Jimbo packs, the new card skins in Balatro‘s latest update are strictly cosmetic and have no impact on the game’s balance.

Between the constant flow of updates and addictive gameplay, Balatro remains one of the highest-rated games of 2024. With more content planned in 2025, what surprises Balatro has in store for players remains to be seen.
