No one is safe during the final Saturday Night Live show of 2024.
In the first promo for the Dec. 21 episode, host Martin Short is getting into the Christmas spirit with some generous gift-giving — but only his “famous friends” made the cut.
As Ashley Padilla, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker walked into Studio 8H as the teaser began, Short, 74, was standing in front of an impressive holiday display and offered a gift to each of the cast members.
“I got you each a little something special,” he told Padilla, Longfellow and Walker, who opened up boxes only to find them empty. “And that something special is a job wrapping all my presents for all my famous friends, which, of course, you three aren’t.”
Short then ran through a few of the gifts he needs help wrapping for some of his A-list friends, including Colin Jost, Steve Martin and Al Pacino.
“Now this book is for Colin Jost,” Short said as he held up a self-help style book called How to Develop a Personality. Jost, 42, needs it because, in Short’s words, “Cocaine calls him ‘the challenge.'”

Pacino, 84, was next up, and Short had a baby rattle for him. “Now this baby rattle is for Al Pacino. Not his baby,” he said, referring to the 18-month-old the actor welcomed with ex-girlfriend Noor Alfallah in June 2023 at age 84. “It’s actually for Al.”
For Martin, 79, Short got sun tan lotion. “It’s SPF Infinity because, let’s face it, Steve is whiter than a Coldplay meet and greet,” he teased. “His blood type is mayonnaise.”

Short’s three kids Katherine, Oliver and Henry, who he shares with his late wife Nancy Dolman, got the final round of gifts, as Short held up a couple glossy photos of himself and revealed they were for his kids.
He then wished Padilla, 31, Longfellow, 30, and Walker, 33, a “Merry Christmas,” but when they tried to go in for a hug, he freaked out, telling them, “Back off!”
“Don’t touch me,” Short demanded as the promo ended. “It’s Merry Christmas — from a distance.”

Saturday’s show will mark the third time Short has hosted SNL solo, and his fifth time hosting overall.
Hozier will be the musical guest for the episode, and it will be the second time the Irish singer has performed.
