Penn State Makes Historic Uniform Announcement Before SMU Playoff Game

The No. 6 seed Penn State Nittany Lions are set for a highly-anticipated first-round College Football Playoff matchup against the No. 11 seed SMU Mustangs on Saturday afternoon.

The program’s first-ever College Football Playoff contest will be a home game at Beaver Stadium, featuring an iconic “White Out” from the Penn State fans.

On Friday, just one day before the Nittany Lions take the field against the visiting Mustangs, Penn State unveiled a historic uniform announcement.

James Franklin’s team will wear their Generations of Greatness uniforms, which pay homage to past eras of Penn State football. The white helmets feature numbers on the side, the jersey numbers are in block font and the white pants have a blue stripe down the side.

In the past, these alternate uniforms have been reserved for Homecoming games. But with the importance of this College Football Playoff contest, the program will roll out this fan-favorite combo.

“For The Glory,” Penn State Football wrote along with its uniform announcement on Friday.

“Omg Generations of Greatness unis for the first-ever home playoff game that doubles as a White Out I might faint,” one fan wrote.

“GoG for the playoffs. #WeAre,” another added.

“These should be the always uniforms,” another said.

Penn State teased this announcement with a photo of the Generations of Glory helmet on Friday morning.

The Nittany Lions are entering this College Football Playoff contest as 8.5-point favorites over the visiting Mustangs. The winner of this game will face off against the No. 3 seed Boise State Broncos in Round 2.
