A cryptic new leak for the Epic Games Store’s Dec 25 giveaway has teased a AAA title for Christmas with “Very Positive” Steam reviews and ties to past freebies. This will be the first free AAA game to be given away for this year’s Holiday Sale giveaway if the leak holds weight.
We have gotten relatively straightforward clues for the past free games given away in the Epic Games Store’s Holiday Sale. From Vampire Survivors on December 19 to Dredge as of December 24, leaker u/MeguminShiro has been pretty spot-on with their leaks, often giving the community easy-to-guess clues via emojis. Well, it seems like that might not be the case this time around, since the latest leak pertaining to the free game for Christmas (December 25) is the most confusing one yet. As per the clue, it’s unclear what genre the game belongs to, or what the elements of the game are like. Unlike past hints, which included direct references to the game (fishes/boat for Dredge, and dice/cards for Astrea: Six Sided Oracles) – this new hint covers other aspects of the upcoming game. For instance, we know that the freebie that will be given away on Christmas will be a AAA title, and that it has “Very Positive” ratings on Steam. Also, the game is more than two years old, ruling out all the titles that launched after.
The only two emojis present in the leaked word are the “dharma” emoji (a symbol often used in relation to the Indian religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism) and the “Om” emoji (a symbol of oneness in Hinduism and other world religions). Clearly, both emojis have religious implications. Lastly, the game is expected to be a ‘half repeat’, which implies that it was a part of a collection given away for free on Epic Games in the past. u/MeguminShiro further mentioned that people who like the game will be happy to find out what game it is, but many gamers won’t be happy at all.

Folks over at Should You Play It? are also in the same boat. Through multiple community suggestions, they managed to compile a list that fulfills most of the aforementioned criteria. While some titles in the list seem less likely to be given away than others (or not likely at all, like GTA 6), others look to be quite plausible as a matter of fact. Reddit users – who were quick to put their finger down for the previously leaked titles, were stumped as well. Considering the plethora of comments and theories, combined with the clues listed earlier, it’s possible that Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Platinum Edition could be the big Christmas giveaway. On the other hand, if the emojis in the clue are present in an entirely different context, the game could be Batman: Arkham Knight, a part of the Gotham Knights Deluxe Edition + Batman Arkham Origins Bundle (as per u/raikoumaster13).
