Former Hawkeyes basketball player and color commentator Jamie Cavey Lang dies at 41

COUNTIES. FORMER HAWKEYE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER AND RADIO COLOR ANALYST JAMIE LAING HAS DIED. THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA SAID IN A STATEMENT. K.D. LANG PASSED AWAY ON SATURDAY AT THE AGE OF 41 AFTER A HARD FOUGHT BATTLE WITH CANCER. LANG HAD BEEN A PART OF THE RADIO TEAM SINCE 2016, BUT STEPPED AWAY AFTER THE 2223 SEASON. AS A PLAYER, SHE LETTERED AT IOWA FROM 2001 TO 2005, AND WAS A PART OF FOUR POSTSEASON TEAMS.

Jamie Cavey Lang, who starred for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2001-2005 and later called women’s basketball games on the radio, died this weekend after fighting cancer, the school announced.Cavey Lang was 41. She played in 115 games for the Hawkeyes, making the NCAA tournament in 2002 as a freshman and 2004 as a junior. She averaged a career-best 16.8 points per game as a junior, good for sixth in the Big Ten.Her 7.1 rebounds per game in her senior season were good for seventh in the conference. She was named All-Big Ten as a junior and seniorShe later paired with Rob Brooks as the color commentator for Iowa women’s basketball radio broadcasts.In a Facebook post, the Iowa women’s basketball program said: The voice of our favorite memories.Jamie brought joy to all she encountered. She was an All-B1G competitor and an enthusiastic and entertaining color analyst. More importantly, she was an incredible friend and mother.Rest in peace, Jamie Cavey Lang. We’re forever grateful you are part of the Hawkeye family.According to her obituary, she is survived by her husband, Mike, three children, Vincent, Bennett and Sydney, and her parents Patrick and Pam Cavey.Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at The Celebration Farm, located at 4696 Robin Woods Lane NE, Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon.
