Lauren Sanchez is treating Donald Trump’s inauguration weekend like a fashion show. On Sunday night, she wore a sparkling black Dolce & Gabbana gown as she hung out with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump at a dinner at the National Building Museum. On Monday, Sanchez and hubby-to-be Jeff Bezos scored coveted a place inside the Capitol Rotunda ahead of the swearing-in. Sanchez took advantage of the temperature-controlled environment to wear a skin-baring look — as is her custom, whether at a state dinner or chilling on a yacht off the coast of St. Barts. This time, she chose a suffragette-esque white suit and styled it over a lace bustier that was more than barely visible underneath the suit jacket’s plunging neckline.
As you can imagine, social media wasn’t pleased — not even the Trump fans who are thrilled to see Bezos go out of his way to support the incoming president. The kindest comments said she had dressed inappropriately for the occasion, while others wished she had “put those things away.” There’s nothing like women’s breasts to get people riled up — and distracted from the more troubling implications of seeing the nation’s wealthiest people all show up to curry favor with Trump.
While Sanchez’s neckline was unusual, she wasn’t the only woman wearing all white on Monday. Both the influential Trump donor Miriam Adelson and incoming White House chief of staff Susie Wiles opted for winter whites, perhaps in an attempt to take back the uniform from the Democrats. Hillary Clinton and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have memorably worn white suits to honor the suffragettes in recent years.
