Lou Holtz Impersonator Crashes Ryan Day, Pat McAfee Interview

Lou Holtz, the 88-year-old Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach from 1986 to 1996, is an icon on the sidelines and a CBS Sports and ESPN analyst on College Football Scoreboard, College Football Final, College Football Live, and many other programs.

His chemistry and back-and-forth with fellow hosts Rece Davis and Mark May live rent-free in the minds of all college football fans, for better or worse.

So leave it to ESPN’s Pat McAfee to have a little too much fun by bringing in a Lou Holtz impersonator during a sit-down interview with Ohio State and Notre Dame coaches Ryan Day and Marcus Freeman.

“Before we get you out of here, there’s somebody who has a question,” said McAfee, gesturing to the other side of the room.

Day could already sense some shenanigans were about to come to pass, saying, “I’m sure I know what’s happening now.”

Enter stage left, a poorly disguised Lou Holtz, wearing obvious facial prosthetics, came into the room.

McAfee, grinning ear to ear, directs Holtz beside him, “Coach, come on over here! Coach, come here!”

Holtz hits the ground running, “Coach Day, I’m going to start with you. OK? Do we need to take this to a back alley or something?”

McAfee was braying with laughter, and Day was having none of it, a not-so-comfortable smile on his face.

“You guys realize that, right?” asked Day. “You guys are out of your minds. Where do you come up with this stuff? You guys just stay up late at night and come up with this stuff?”

“This guy’s a good Lou Holtz impersonator!” McAfee replies.

Even Freeman is in the back laughing, smiling and taking it all in. The trio were all smiles and having fun in the moment.

Day and McAfee stand up, shake hands and hug with the interview ending.
