Jessica Gunning came this close to a wardrobe malfunction at the 2025 Golden Globes.
“Wow, hello, I almost tripped up,” the Baby Reindeer star said as she reached the stage to accept her award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television. “You nearly saw my Golden Globes then.” (See all the stars who went home a winner from the Jan. 5 ceremony.)
Quite possibly no one would have noticed her stumble, but nothing like a saucy ice breaker to get the audience smiling.
Calling her latest trophy for her role as a smiley stalker in the Netflix limited series an “absolute honor,” the English actress then told a sweet safe-for-work story.
“There’s a video of me when I was little, I was about 8 years old, and my mum and dad got me a hamster for Christmas,” Gunning shared, “and they brought it out in this bin bag—in a cage—it wasn’t just in a bin bag, ‘Happy Christmas.’ I’ve got a very Yorkshire accent. And I just kept saying, ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me. I can’t believe this is happening to me.'”
“And I realized this morning that that has been a kind of soundtrack for my life for this last year since Baby Reindeer came out,” she continued. “I cannot believe any of this is happening to me.”

With that she thanked everyone involved, including “all my friends and family, who I love more than anything.”
But Gunning saved her final appreciation for Baby Reindeer creator and star (and the object of her character’s unfortunate affections) Richard Gadd.
The show “has changed my life in ways that I can’t even explain,” she concluded, “so thank you for everything. I can’t believe this is happening, and I know the 8-year-old me wouldn’t either. She’d be absolutely chuffed to bits.”
Gunning previously won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie in September.
