It is common knowledge that Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James are close friends in the NBA. However, Anthony has now disclosed the origins of their friendship, which dates back to their adolescent years.
As their off-court friendship continued to develop unaffected by competitive rivalry, they engaged in numerous on-court confrontations over the years. During an appearance on the Shotime program “All the Smoke,” Melo recounted the events that transpired during their high school years. Expectations surrounding the two teenage prospects had already generated a rivalry between them at the time. “At the time of my arrival at Oak Hill Academy, LeBron was a student there from the previous year.” I thought to myself, “I must play against him; it’s on the schedule.” “We must ensure its success,” Anthony advised. “Once we arrive at the hotel following the prime-time shootout and receive the jersey, Melo, are you present? Yeah! Additionally, it was All-Star weekend in Philadelphia. Furthermore, we spent hours seated on the steps prior to that contest.

“Both of us know nothing about the other; you know nothing about me.” After that moment, we simply felt as though we came from comparable origins; we both grew up in the hood and shared a broken family home. As a result, we became acquainted prior to basketball. “I was in search of a relationship akin to brotherhood.”
Since that momentous first encounter, the two individuals have maintained a strong friendship. In 2003, much adversity surrounded the prediction of the first overall pick in the draft. The Cleveland Cavaliers ultimately selected LeBron, while Melo was at third overall and was selected by the Denver Nuggets. After nearly twenty years have passed, the acquaintances are once again colleagues and will line up for the Los Angeles Lakers in the same lineup for the upcoming season. Finally, after much anticipation, Anthony and James have reached a juncture where their paths converge.
