Carmelo Anthony mentors rising Australian basketball star, 17-year-old Dash Daniels, in the NBL’s Next Stars program. Daniels, signed with Melbourne United, aims to make history as one of the league’s youngest players. Anthony champions Daniels and the program, emphasizing his commitment to ownership and fostering the next generation of talent in a league he considers among the world’s best.
Carmelo Anthony is redefining his legacy, not just as a player, but as a mentor. By joining the NBL’s Next Stars program, Melo is now at the forefront of developing the next generation of basketball talent. His latest focus is on 17-year-old Australian prospect Dash Daniels, who is poised to make history in the league. With a bright future ahead, Daniels is ready to make his mark, with Melo cheering him on every step of the way.
Carmelo Anthony Skills 🤯🔥
A few months ago, Carmelo Anthony made waves by joining the NBL’s Next Stars program, following Kenny Smith’s lead in mentoring future basketball talent. Recently, Melo celebrated the latest addition to the program, Dash Daniels, a rising star from Australia.
At just 17, Daniels has signed with Melbourne United for the 2025/26 NBL season, becoming one of the youngest players in the league’s history. Melo, an ambassador for Next Stars, quickly took to social media to show his support: “Go show ’em 🫡.”
Dash isn’t the only talented Daniels, his older brother, Dyson, was the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and now plays for the Atlanta Hawks. For Dash, signing his first pro contract is a dream come true:“I feel great. Signing my first pro contract, it’s a dream come true, and I can’t wait to get started.”
At 6’6”, the Bendigo native has spent the past 18 months training at the NBA Global Academy in Canberra. He made a splash at the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup, leading in steals per game and was named Player of the Tournament at the U18 National Championships. Up next, he’ll represent Victoria in the 2025 U20 Nationals.
With Melo closely watching, Daniels’ journey is just getting started.
Carmelo Anthony isn’t just about making an impact on the court; his vision extends far beyond that, he’s aiming for ownership. In a candid conversation with Andscape, Melo explained why he’s taking a different path, one that seeks to change the game. “Ownership for one. But that’s always, ownership is always, the ticket, right,” he said, noting the scarcity of diverse voices in boardrooms and ownership groups. “There’s not many of us in the ownership seats, in the ownership group on a cap table.” (via: EssentiallySports)
For Melo, this journey is not just about the cause, but about creating lasting change.“For me, that’s not my cause. I get in, I like to use my impact, I like to use my education and my insight and just my experience in the way that I can expand it in a way that is different.” he added, emphasizing his drive to expand opportunities in a unique, meaningful way.
To solidify his role as a catalyst for change, Melo has partnered with NBL president Larry Kestelman in the league’s Next Stars program. As a global ambassador, he’s committed to guiding young talent, following in the footsteps of previous standouts like LaMelo Ball, Josh Giddey, and Alex Sarr.
But it’s not just the mission that draws him in, Melo is captivated by the NBL’s dynamic energy. “A couple of people have shown me videos of what’s happening over here,” he said. Melo believes the NBL is making waves on a global scale, dubbing it “arguably the second-best league in the world.” With Dash Daniels now joining Melo in the Next Stars program, the spotlight is firmly on this new chapter in basketball’s global landscape.
