Former Fox News host Neil Cavuto, who recently announced his departure from the network after 28 years, said he wasn’t leaving the industry.
“After all, I’ve been doing this for nearly three decades here,” he told viewers Thursday afternoon. “You know, there are people working with me now who weren’t even born when I started at Fox. That’s how old I am.”
“But I’m not leaving journalism,” he added. “I’m just leaving here.”
Over the years, Cavuto has lived with multiple sclerosis and admitted to missing a few days of work due to contracting COVID-19 and having open heart surgery.
“I might have been unlucky in health, but very lucky for the support I got here and the things I got to do here because I got to do what I love to do,” the veteran news anchor said.
“Report the news, not shout the news, not blast the news and not well, call names. Just call balls and strikes,” he added.
President-elect Trump has frequently criticized Cavuto for fact checking him on a wide range of topics, most notably during the 2024 presidential election. He was quick to respond to the news of the host’s departure from the network.
“GOOD NEWS FOR AMERICA! Neil Cavuto, the Lowest Rated Anchor on Fox, by far, is leaving – Should have happened a long time ago,” Trump wrote Thursday on Truth Social.
While the former president expressed his joy regarding Cavuto’s departure, Fox News colleagues reflected on years of mentorship from the veteran journalist.
“There will never be another Neil Cavuto,” Aishah Hasnie, senior national correspondent for Fox News wrote in a Thursday post on social platform X. “Known for hosting every show without any scripts. Inviting folks from the left, right, center.”
“Encouraging healthy debate. And making news almost daily,” Hasnie continued.” I loved laughing with you on air and learned so much from you. You will be missed, sir.”
