A pair of former San Francisco 49ers coaches kick-off the NFL playoffs. Jim Harbaugh’s Los Angeles Chargers travel to Houston to take on DeMeco Ryans’s Texans.
Both teams enter Saturday with quarterbacks who were drafted early in the first round. C.J. Stroud’s sophomore season has seen some regression, but he’s dealt with pass protection issues and wide receivers in and out of the lineup all year.
Earlier this week, Ryans said the team will look to get wide receiver Diontae Johnson more involved. The Texans weren’t exactly lighting it up before Tank Dell went down with an injury, and they’ve been searching for answers since. Johnson and Jon Metchie should be heavily involved this afternoon.
Justin Herbert looks like a star whenever the Chargers are on primetime. The question usually comes down to whether he will get enough help around him. I’m expecting Ryans to be on the attack and Houston’s secondary to suffocate Los Angeles’s wideouts.
Stroud pulls off the upset in a close, low-scoring AFC matchup.
