The Washington Commanders will be looking for better weapons to help rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels during the offseason. That’s arguably their biggest priority in pursuit of maximizing his rookie contract.
Daniels is a superstar. He’s proven that on countless occasions this season and earned a Pro Bowl selection as a result of his efforts. His drive and composure in the clutch dragged the Commanders into the playoffs at the first time of asking under the new regime. It’s also made Washington a coveted destination once again.
General manager Adam Peters has some decent resources at his disposal in 2025. The Commanders have around $100 million in salary-cap space and seven draft selections. Being ahead of schedule with a genuine franchise presence under center only raises the sense of positivity around this exciting project.
There are several ways Peters could approach this issue. He could go down the draft route — especially if someone like Luther Burden III is there for the taking. The Commanders could go after a proven veteran such as Tee Higgins, Chris Godwin, or Stefon Diggs in free agency. They might also consider another bold trade if the right opportunity presents itself.
Commanders could capitalize on Tyreek Hill’s unhappiness
A recent development involving Tyreek Hill is something the Commanders should monitor. The wideout’s frustrations boiled over after Week 18. He stated that there was no future with the Miami Dolphins and that a fresh challenge was needed.
“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs. I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, bro, I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there. At the end of the day there’s a lot of things I need to reassess for my career. Just see what I need to do to continue to do to get better as a player. So I can continue to reach that 1,000-yard mark. It is what it is.”

This came in the heat of the moment, but it was a crystal clear intent to depart the Dolphins. Hill’s given this some serious thought after a down year by his typically high standards. Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion issues and other injury problems haven’t helped, but the former fifth-round pick expected better from the organization.
Hill wanting to leave is one thing. Getting his wish granted is another matter.
The Dolphins are not going to outright release Hill. He’s still one of the league’s most dynamic playmakers and can take over any game when in the mood. If the Dolphins became receptive to trade offers, there would be a queue of suitors willing to make an offer.
Washington could be one of them. Hill’s contract is manageable given his talent level. He looks like a tremendous fit within Kliff Kingsbury’s system. His explosiveness and ability to impact proceedings at all three levels of the field offer something different from what the Commanders already possess at the skill positions.
Pairing Hill with Terry McLaurin instantly becomes one of the league’s hottest wide receiver tandems. Acquiring him would take draft capital — perhaps a second-round pick and more to get the deal over the line. What Peters needs to figure out is whether he’ll fit into the culture and be a long-term asset.
Time will tell on that one. But it’s an intriguing option if nothing else.
