Danish press react to Rasmus Hojlund scoring winning goal vs Portugal and celebrating like Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund scored the winning goal to lead Denmark to victory over Portugal.

That’s two goals in successive games now for striker Rasmus Hojlund, who ended his goalless streak in Manchester United’s 3-0 win at Leicester. His previous goal came at the start of December.

Ahead of the UEFA Nations League quarter-final first leg against Portugal, Manchester United teammate Diogo Dalot had urged him not to score. Hojlund did not listen.

He scored a 78th minute winner to clinch a 1-0 win for his side, ahead of the second leg back in Portugal this coming Sunday.

To rub it in, Hojlund celebrated with Cristiano Ronaldo‘s ‘Siuuu’ celebration, with the Portugal striker still on the pitch on the losing side.

The goal was Rasmus Hojlund’s first in 13 games for Denmark. He is in the habit of snapping scoreless streaks.

Speaking of his goal and memorable celebration, Danish outlet Bold wrote: “It was a jubilant scene that resembled one of the many we’ve seen from Cristiano Ronaldo over the years.”

The outlet gave Hojlund a 8/10 rating, noting that ‘he generally seemed very determined.

Tipsbladet wrote: “Rasmus Hojlund made the entire Park explode into a jubilant inferno when he came on from the bench and decided the match with his goal against Diogo Costa.

“Two goals in two games in a row is not an everyday occurrence for Hojlund – and with the goal, he at least showed Brian Riemer that he shouldn’t have it easy choosing his frontrunner!”

The outlet gave Hojlund a 4/5 in their player ratings, adding, ‘he can still do it’, while United teammate Christian Eriksen had a 3/5.

Christian Eriksen probably should have scored two goals in the first half. He missed a penalty, with his spot-kick saved by Diogo Costa. This was Denmark’s first penalty in more than three years.

He then saw an effort cleared off the line by Manchester United teammate Diogo Dalot, infuriating him.

Danish outlet Bold noted: “Eriksen throws up his arms in despair. Because it was a half where he should have scored twice, but ended up not getting on the scoreboard.”
