Good Wednesday morning!
Today starts out quiet and cool, with temperatures in the 30s. Cloudy skies give way to widespread rain and snow showers later on this evening. This system’s impact will be elevation-based. The lowest elevations in the Mohawk Valley, and Utica-Rome area will see primarily rain throughout the entire event, while higher elevations north and south will see a switchover from rain to wet snow.
Snowfall rates could pick up south and east of Utica, but the speed of the system is fast enough that this won’t be a long-lasting event. Snowfall totals do not look to be that dramatic.
Following today, there will be scattered snow showers from lake-effect Thursday, and then light snowfall Friday before we cool down big time heading into the weekend. Widespread wind chills below zero are possible during the overnight hours.
This arctic blast won’t last too long though, as we are back to average temperatures by Christmas, followed by a warm-up late next week.
