ESPN FPI Makes Most Overrated College Football Playoff Team Clear

The first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff is underway. As fans turn their focus toward second-round matchups, ESPN has updated its Football Power Index (FPI)

ESPN’s FPI is a computer-generated system that calculates strength of schedule, team statistics and win probability.

In the updated FPI, the computer-generated system revealed one shocking detail about the College Football Playoff, highlighting the most overrated team in the bracket.

While ESPN’s FPI gives Texas the best chance to win the national championship at 27.2%, it also revealed that Oregon only has a 7.7% chance to hoist the national title trophy.

Despite heading into the College Football Playoff as the only undefeated team in the Power Four at 13-0, the Ducks have the sixth-best odds to win the championship.

ESPN gives Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia and Notre Dame the edge over Oregon.

The only two teams the Ducks have better odds are Boise State and Arizona State, both lower-ranked conference champions.

Oregon’s unblemished 13-0 record includes three ranked wins. The Ducks previously defeated No. 2 Ohio State, No. 20 Illinois and No. 3 Penn State.

Their win over the Nittany Lions came in the Big Ten title game, where Oregon earned the conference title win, 45-37, in the program’s first-ever season in the Big Ten.

Oregon is led by Heisman Trophy finalist Dillon Gabriel, who’s posted 28 touchdowns and 3,558 yards with a 73.2 completion percentage.

Despite the roster firepower and strong resume, ESPN’s FPI clearly deems the Ducks the most overrated team in the College Football Playoff.
