Writing for Fox News in 2016, Mr Hilton announced his support for Donald Trump. The following year he went on to become a regular presenter on the Right-wing channel, hosting The Next Revolution. A staunch supporter of Mr Trump, Mr Hilton used his platform to demand an investigation into false claims the 2020 election was rigged.
Clips of Mr Hilton making the demands on Fox News were tweeted by Mr Trump.
It is not clear who from the Democratic party will throw their hat into the ring to replace Mr Newsom as California governor, although Kamala Harris is said to be weighing her options following her defeat in the 2024 presidential race.
As the wounded Democratic Party struggles to regroup, Mr Newsom, who is rumoured to be mulling a 2028 presidential campaign, has interviewed prominent conservatives on his new podcast, This is Gavin Newsom.
In doing so, he has stunned members of his own party, by agreeing with his guests on issues such as restricting transgender athlete’s participation in women’s in sports.
Mr Newsom also called dismantling police departments “lunacy” and remained silent when Steve Bannon, an architect of Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, said Mr Trump won the 2020 presidential election.
