Furious Man Utd fans have a LOT to say about Andre Onana after performance vs Brighton, ‘bold’ message must be made

Manchester United fans singled out Andre Onana and sent a clear-cut message to Ruben Amorim after the 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim oversaw a poor showing from Manchester United hot on the heels of their 3-1 comeback win against Southampton at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Amad Diallo rescued United against the Saints with his late stunning hat-trick, but not even the in-form Ivorian attacker could save the Red Devils against Brighton.

Brighton arrived at Old Trafford on the weekend and Yankuba Minteh stunned the Red Devils in the fifth minute with the opener against United.

Amorim’s men managed to rally back in the 23rd minute after Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot-kick and cancelled out Yankuba Minteh’s opener.

United and Brighton went into half-time with the scoreline level at 1-1, but the Seagulls took control of the Premier League match in the second half.

Kaoru Mitoma fired Brighton back into the lead in the 60th minute before Georginio Rutter slammed home the Seagulls’ third in the 76th minute against United.

Manchester United have dropped to 13th place in the Premier League table after their first defeat of 2025 under Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils are 10 points clear of 18th-place Ipswich Town and United are now 12 points adrift from fourth-place Newcastle after 22 league matches.

United have only managed seven Premier League wins in the 2024-25 campaign under former Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag and Amorim.

Andre Onana was met with fierce criticism in his debut season at United and the United No 1 appeared to turn over a new leaf at the start of the current campaign.

However, the 28-year-old Cameroonian shot-stopper has seen his form take a major hit towards the end of 2024 and Onana was at fault in the Brighton defeat.

Onana came out to collect a low cross from Yasin Ayari in the United box and the former Ajax and Inter Milan star fumbled his collection of the ball.

Georginio Rutter pounced on Onana’s error and tapped home the ball into the back of the United net, with the Cameroon international left completely helpless.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, ruthlessly slammed Onana after his howler against Brighton at the Theatre of Dreams.

Red Devils supporters have urged Amorim to axe Onana and replace him with Altay Bayindir, who impressed with his superb display against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

One X user wrote: “Bayindir has been robbed. How’s he not started every game since Arsenal? Never tends to put a foot wrong when he plays and he’s so passionate, too!”

“If a player has an absolute worldie performance like Bayindir, why is he not starting the next match, why are we putting Onana back in?” another asked.

Someone else commented: “Onana was an absolute disaster against Brighton—couldn’t catch a cold, let alone a cross. Time to give Altay Bayindir a go between the sticks next match. Can’t be worse, can it?”

“Altay Bayindir deserves a run in the team. Onana has been consistently dreadful,” a fourth fan added.

While a fifth fan said: “Bad result for MUFC. Onana [has] never been convincing, it’s time to give Bayindir the chance to play in league matches!”

Somebody else posted: “No more Onana. Amorim has to be bold [and] say no more. You can’t keep getting away with it! I’m not convinced Bayindir will be much better, but what have we got to lose now? [And] I’m convinced that he isn’t helping this defence, as bad as they are. Imagine playing in front of him?”

A seventh X account suggested: “Okay, we need to have a conversation about Andre Onana. He’s not good enough for United. [Doesn’t] come for the ball during set pieces, makes costly mistakes, No passion at all – like he [doesn’t] even command his defence like [sic]. Bayindir is better. Onana is overrated.”

And an eighth tweeted: “Bayindir must be licking his lips watching that Onana performance.”
