Guardiola thrilled with McAtee treble

McAtee was named Player of the Match after his second half treble in an 8-0 victory sent the Blues through to the fourth round of the competition.

And the boss was thrilled to see the 22-year-old playing a key role in the triumph although he stressed that McAtee can perform better.

“He’s a special, talented player,” said the manager.

“The generation of Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, Liam Delap, Romeo Lavia, Jadon Sancho. All the players that play really well in the Premier League.

“He was a main player there and captain and a City fan.

“I’m not going to deny how happy I am. It’s not easy to score a hat trick but he can play better. First half was not his best and he has to do that.

“But he’s an exceptional guy and he has special talent.

“When he plays close to the opposition, he has an incredible sense of goal. His work ethic is unbelievable and he is aggressive.

“Today was not easy. He was man marked in the middle. I’m really pleased for him.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola revealed that Kyle Walker wasn’t involved against Salford after the right-back expressed interest in leaving and playing abroad.

“It’s not easy to say because he should say but he’s not here.

“Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad at the end of his career.

“He asked two years ago after Treble, Bayern Munich wanted him but the offer wasn’t good enough.

“We cannot understand the success we had these years without Kyle. It’s impossible. He has been amazing.

“In his mind, he would like to explore to go to another country for many reasons. For that reason I prefer playing other players whose mind is here.

“He went to Txiki. He asked to explore. That doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

“We are more than grateful. He arrived many years ago and we win, win, win.

“Important for the national team and our team.

“He wants to explore in his mind and heart. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
