Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Windham, Maine, on Friday afternoon, and they are reportedly searching for a vehicle that fled the scene.
Maine State Police said they are assisting Windham police with a shooting that occurred around 1:55 p.m. Friday on Route 302 in North Windham. They said further information will be released as it becomes available.
A dispatcher for the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center said Route 302 is closed at Landing Road. There are a number of businesses in the area, including a Lowe’s, a Walmart and a McDonald’s.
Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce told News Center Maine that as of 2:45 p.m., they were trying to locate a vehicle that fled the scene after the shooting. He said sheriff’s deputies were searching in the Raymond area.
Police sent an alert to people in the area of Route 302 saying, “Gunman at large in North Windham. Shelter indoors, lock doors. Report suspicious behavior to 911. Last seen Windham/Raymond line. Stay inside. Tune to local news or Windham PD for updates.”
The shelter in place is for people in the area of Route 302 from Route 85 in Raymond to White Bridge Road in Windham and surrounding side streets.
Police have not released any information about injuries, but a News Center Maine photographer reported seeing a tarp in the middle of the road with what appeared to be a body underneath it.

Windham is a town with about 18,000 residents, located in Cumberland County about 10 miles outside of Portland.
