It’s time for Basketball: Spurs at Warriors

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

With just three games left in the season, the Spurs are still playing games that matter. Not to them, of course, but to their opponents who need wins to rise in the standings and hopefully avoid the play-in, where you can be eliminated in one or two games. The Warriors are one of the four tied teams [Clippers, Nuggets, Warriors, Grizzlies] that take up the fourth to seventh place in the Western Conference standings, and only one game behind the Lakers for third place. It’s a massive difference between having a guaranteed home playoff series and being one or two games away from complete elimination, and the Warriors are going to be playing as hard as they can to avoid the play-in, so they are going to treat their final three games like playoff games. The Warriors’ remaining schedule is the Spurs, Trail Blazers and Clippers, so they’re going to go all out to sweep all of them. The Warriors defeated the Spurs 148-102 on March 20 in the Frost Center where Brandin Podziemski dominated the hapless Silver and Black, which doesn’t inspire confidence in tonight’s game for San Antonio fans.

The Spurs garbage time squad did a nice job last night with late game stat stuffing, where they made the score look respectable in a game where the outcome was decided by midway through the fourth quarter. It would be nice to see a lot more time with the double point guard lineup of Jordan McLaughlin and Blake Wesley as the Spurs just try different lineups as they play our the last few games. As always, there should be a spectacular dunk or dunk attempt by Stephon Castle at some point in the game, and it should make watching the rest of the action more bearable. No matter how badly the rest of the team plays, Harrison Barnes will continue to be a productive player, and hopefully that will convince the Spurs to bring him back next year when the Spurs will field a more complete squad. Let’s go Spurs.

Game Prediction:

Blake Wesley will get into a three point contest with Steph Curry and take the lead briefly, until one of his teammates nudges him and he wakes up.

GO SPURS GOOOO!!!
