The social media sleuthing has begun.
Jessica Simpson may have hinted that she and husband Eric Johnson were calling it quits in a cryptic Instagram post two months before she confirmed they had split.
In the resurfaced Nov. 11 post, the “I Belong to Me” singer, 44, revealed that she was back in the recording studio working on an upcoming album that she described as “an apology” to herself.
“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she captioned a series of photographs showing her in a low-cut white dress, black furry coat and shiny knee-high black block-heeled boots.
Jessica Simpson posted a cryptic Instagram on Nov. 11, 2024, hinting at her impending breakup.
Simpson, who has not released a non-holiday studio album since 2008, added,”This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
On Monday, the fashion designer released a statement confirming rumors that she and Johnson, 45, were breaking up after ten years of marriage.
“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” Simpson told People.
“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

Simpson met Johnson, a former NFL tight end, in 2010. They got engaged six months later and tied the knot in 2014. The couple share three children — daughters Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11.
Johnson has not appeared on the “Open Book” author’s Instagram page since September 2023, when she wished him a happy 44th birthday.
The retired football player was noticeably absent from a family photo Simpson shared this past September showing her and her kids on their first day of school.

“Maxwell, Ace and Birdie y’all make your Mom beam with smiles and grace!” she wrote in the caption.
“Keep on showin’ up for yourselves with each step of the way through this new school year!”
Simpson added, “I’m so very proud of y’all for individually shining your light so that in return others feel the glow.”
Simpson’s most recent Instagram post was shared last week.
The star’s most recent Instagram upload — a photo of her smiling in her car — was posted last week.
“Life is short. SMILE while you still have teeth,” she captioned the snap.
Simpson hasn’t been spotted wearing her wedding ring in months, and she’s not the only one. In November — the same month the singer shared her cryptic post — Johnson was seen on numerous occasions without his nuptial band.
“Jess and Eric very much live separate lives,” a source told People at the time.

Before his marriage to Simpson, Johnson wed Keri D’Angelo. The pair married in 2005 but separated in October 2009 before divorcing one year later in October 2010.
Simpson was famously married to 98 Degrees frontman Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006.
