Forget glam squads, video crews, and perfect lighting! On December 17, 2024, Kelly Clarkson released a “homemade” music video for her newest holiday tune — a mashup of cute home movies filmed at her Montana ranch. In videos taken by Clarkson’s sister Alyssa, the original “American Idol” winner is seen playing in the snow, frolicking with her family’s dogs, and recording “You For Christmas” in her festive home studio.
Posting the video to social media on December 17, Clarkson wrote, “‘You For Christmas’ The Official Homemade Video 🎄❄️ Shout out to my sister for helping with filming! Merry Christmas from High Road Ranch ❤️”
Makeup-free and dressed in a Santa hat, black leggings and a “Very Merry Mama” shirt, Clarkson looks joyful as she skips down a dirt road at her ranch as snow falls around her. Later in the video, she’s seen laughing as she makes snow angels and wraps twinkling lights around one of the evergreens on her property.
Clarkson purchased her $10.4 million ranch in Montana — originally called Warren Peak Ranch — while still married to Brandon Blackstock. After the two split, Blackstock lived on the ranch until a judge ruled in 2021 that Clarkson was the sole titleholder, according to Wide Open Country. In early 2022, the outlet said, Blackstock was awarded 5.12% ownership interest in the ranch, but Clarkson maintains primary ownership.
In 2023, Clarkson told Dax Shepard on his “Armchair Expert” podcast, “I need roots. I like going places, but I need roots and, Montana, it’s that for me.”
Fans are loving the rare look at Clarkson at her having fun on the ranch, filling her post with comments including one who wrote, “Woohoo we love a happy snow frolicking visual!! 🔥👏”
Clarkson previously released a lyric video for “You For Christmas,” which she wrote with hitmakers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. The song was released by Atlantic Records in late September. She’s sinceperformed it on “The Voice” season 26 finale, her own talk show, and when she hosted the Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting in early December.
The new tune is a standalone single that’s available on the new deluxe version of her 2021 holiday album, “When Christmas Comes Around…Again.”
Meanwhile, Clarkson’s “Underneath the Tree,” released in 2013, has become the most popular modern holiday tune, topping ASCAP’s New Classic Holiday Songs chart for the second year in a row. The list tracks the hottest holiday tunes released in the past 20 years.
