LaVar Ball—the patriarch of the Hall basketball dynasty which includes his sons LaMelo, Lonzo, and LiAngelo—has reportedly undergone surgery to have one of his feet amputated after suffering a serious medical issue. TMZ reported the news, citing sources close to Ball’s family.
The outlet reported that LaVar “underwent a recent procedure to have his right foot removed,” but added that “despite it all, he is in great spirits and doing well.” The article included a candid picture of LaVar in the hospital, smiling as he sits in a wheelchair with his amputated limb wrapped in gauze.
LaVar made a name for himself, and his sons, with the Big Baller Brand, a footwear company which designs shoes specifically for basketball players. While Lonzo and LaMelo are burgeoning NBA talents, LiAngelo is pursuing a music career. LaVar had his own dalliance with sports, leading a well-heeled college career with California State University Los Angeles before spending time with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers organizations.
Neither the Ball brothers nor LaVar have spoken publicly about the recent surgery.
