Numerous Texas schools were shut or implementing delayed starts on Wednesday as the state faced a widespread freeze.
Why It Matters
For parents or guardians who depend on schools for daytime child care, closures may necessitate changes to work schedules or finding alternative child care options.
What To Know
The entire state on Wednesday was under either a cold weather advisory, extreme cold warning or freeze warning, used by the National Weather Service (NWS) to alert residents to challenging, often dangerous weather conditions.
For example, the NWS said that portions of the Texas Panhandle could see “dangerously cold” wind chills as low as 30 below zero.
