Morning Briefing: Mets Drop Opening Day Duel with Astros

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets have now lost on Opening Day in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1999 and 2000, as they dropped a 3-1 contest to the Houston Astros at Daikin Park. Juan Soto reached base three times in his regular season debut for the team, though he struck out to end the game with two runners on against Josh Hader, while Clay Holmes allowed two earned runs and walked four batters over 4 2/3 innings in his first start for the club.

New York is set to send Tylor Megill out to the bump on Friday night, and Houston will counter with Hunter Brown. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. and coverage will air on Apple TV+.
