2025-03-27T17:56:40.008ZHello there, Jacob here taking over what has already been a jam-packed live reporting on Nintendo’s March 27 Direct.
There are a plethora of new titles to be excited about – including some launching today like Disney Villains Cursed Cafe – but what stands out to me the most as of right now is the new virtual card feature, which will drop in April.
I especially like that it should make managing titles on your Switch a little easier, but also that sharing titles between consoles could be a little more convenient.
2025-03-27T17:26:15.575ZAnd that’s a wrap from me!
That was a surprisingly fun Nintendo Direct, all things considered, and a lovely send off for the Nintendo Switch.
It’s nearing the end of the working day here in the UK, so I’m about to head out but that doesn’t mean our coverage is going to end.
I’m going to be handing this page over to our super star Managing Editor, News, Jacob Krol over in the US shortly with a few expert contributions from Hardware Editor Rhys Wood here and there.
Jacob will be scouring the web for new details as they emerge, keeping you up to date with all the latest.

Nintendo was adamant that there wouldn’t be any new information about the Nintendo Switch 2 in today’s direct, but may have accidentally leaked something anyway.
One of the screenshots on the App Store and Google Play listings for the new Nintendo Today app shows the Nintendo Switch 2 in all its glory, complete with its mysterious button.
Just like the leaks suggested, it has a ‘C’ on it – which I guess means we should call it the “C Button”.
What could it do? I’ve got no idea, but it’s definitely an interesting little detail.
The button was completely blank in the original Nintendo Switch 2 reveal trailer and I suspect that Nintendo had intended to reveal more at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct next month…
2025-03-27T17:10:07.573ZSome new Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army details just dropped!
In addition to Nintendo Switch, the game is coming to PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S and features enhanced graphics, an overhauled battle system, plus a full voiceover.
Atlus also posted a new extended video with a detailed look at the game.
The Return of Raidou Kuzunoha | World Spotlight – YouTube
It offers a full breakdown of the game’s setting and story, plus investigations mechanics. The changes in this version are detailed and there’s also an interview with the director about the remaster.
2025-03-27T16:55:16.329ZHot off the presses, I’ve got the latest details on Tamagotchi Plaza.
The game releases on June 27 and is part of the Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop series. It lets the player run twelve different shops in the Tamagotchi world, serving cute characters from the universe.
Some shops will feature offline two-player co-op minigames, which can be played when you hook up a second controller. Additionally, the game will be able to link up with the latest Tamagotchi Uni toy, which will allow you to unlock exclusive items.
2025-03-27T16:39:53.129ZMore Gradius Origins details have just arrived! The collection is billed as the “definitive collection of the earliest games from the Gradius series” – classic 2D side-scrolling shoot ’em ups.
The collection includes:
- Gradius
- Gradius JP ver
- Gradius Bubble System ver
- Nemesis NA ver
- Nemesis EU ver
- Nemesis NA Proto ver

The collection also comes with Salamander 3, a brand-new entry and the first new game in the series in over 15 years. It features 2D sprites and background, so should fit in well with the rest of the collection.
2025-03-27T16:29:53.147ZNintendo of America president and COO Doug Bowser has taken to X / Twitter to ask fans about their thoughts on the latest direct.
What was you favorite news from today’s #NintendoDirectMarch 27, 2025
“What was you favorite news from today’s #NintendoDirect,” he posted. This was quickly followed up with a post with the correction “*your”.

I’ve also got some more information on Patapon 1+2 Replay in my inbox. It explains that this remastered package has been tweaked with new players in mind, offering “new updates” to make it “even more accessible and enjoyable!”
This includes new difficulty settings (Normal, Easy, and Hard) plus the addition of accessibility options like timing adjustment and constant command display.
The game will release on July 11, 2025. In addition to Nintendo Switch, it’s also coming to PlayStation 5 and PC.

I’ve just received an email from Bandai Namco with some more information about Shadow Labyrinth!
The trailer earlier today showed off a new ability that players will be able to harness where they take the form of a powerful mech known as Gaia. As Gaia, you will be able to deal huge damage to enemies and stand a chance against the game’s challenging bosses.
It also confirms that this is indeed a Pac-Man game, though you play as a mysterious warrior known as Swordsman No. 8. You will be joined on your journey by Puck (a familiar yellow creature) that guides you on your journey and consumes everything you defeat on the way.
The game will feature challenging enemies and puzzles, plus a huge maze-like world to explore.

Senior Deals Editor James Pickard has been left wondering what the deal (hehe) is with the latest Metroid Prime 4: Beyond trailer.
“I found the trailer disappointing. Why did they spend so much time emphasising the dullest mechanics like scanning objects, opening a door, and basic telekinesis?” he asked.
“To me, the actual fun part of Metroid is the sense of exploration and discovery that comes from uncovering new parts of a mysterious and uncharted planet. I’m still excited, but this trailer didn’t sell the premise well at all to newcomers.”
2025-03-27T15:55:06.149ZStaff Writer, Reviews, Harry Padoan is up for this revitalized PS2 release:
“I’m a huge Atlus fan and both Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne and Persona 4 Golden rank as some of my favorite RPGs ever. Even still, I’ve never had a chance to play any of the Devil Summoner games, so the announcement of a Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army remaster has me hyped. I’m already excited to clash with classic demons like Oni and Cerberus…but more than anything, to walk around Tok-hee-ho…I mean Tokyo, with Jack Frost.”

Back to some more reactions from the team! Senior Staff Writer Hamish Hector is much more optimistic about the new Pokémon game than I am…
“New Pokémon Legends Z-A details are always excellent, and while we still didn’t see any new ‘mons or Megas the Z-A Royale battles looks like an awesome twist on the classic Gym Challenge we’re used to by now,” he said.
“I just hope grinding through 26 ranks from Z to A doesn’t turn into a slog. Shadow Labyrinth looks sweet (and kinda silly) too. It wasn’t on my radar at all but any game that promises dark Pac-Man lore is one I can’t not play. Oh, and that hand-drawn The Eternal Life of Goldman title looks like a beautiful platformer. I adored Cuphead and this game’s aesthetics are enough to make me try it out as well when it launches.”
2025-03-27T15:42:11.307ZIf you were wondering when you could download the Nintendo Today app… Well right now, actually! It seems to be live right now on Android and iOS.
We’re currently giving its features a whirl, but I’ve already spotted this challenging character quiz:
Got the new Nintendo Today app downloaded and you have got to be kidding me pic.twitter.com/kmFn29P6rbMarch 27, 2025
2025-03-27T15:39:53.818ZI also cornered Audio Editor Becky Scarrott as she was heading to the office kitchen. She had this to say:
“I did not watch any of Nintendo Direct and I do not participate in gaming sessions (either solo or online), so it’s hard for me to get excited about any of the announcements. Did they bring back Duck Hunt? That might be good. I imagine they didn’t though.”
2025-03-27T15:37:31.566ZManaging Editor, Lifestyle, Josephine Watson also tuned in and is sharing the Tomodachi Life hype.
“The revival of Tomodachi Life is sweet, sweet vindication for a series fan like me, but I know I’m not in the majority in my love of the franchise,” she argued.
“In fact, when I mention it, most people correct me assuming I’m talking about Tamagotchi (side note, really excited for the new Tamagotchi game too). For the uninitiated, the whacky, weird and whimsical world of Tomodachi Life offered players everything from the ability to create lyrics to pre-made songs and have their favorite Miis sing along to watching as their Island residents build relationships, marry and have children.”
“Its vast array of hilarious and often bizarre gameplay features can be populated by custom Miis of your family and friends or recognizable characters from video games, pop culture and beyond. Honestly, I hope they keep as much as possible from the original game in the new one, with a focus on adding to rather than reshaping the game. Time will tell…”

Next we have freelance news writer Demi Williams, who is looking forward to a certain cozy game…
“Finally, Chucklefish’s brand new life-sim Witchbrook, which has been in development for almost 10 years, has a release window, and it’s arriving just in time for the holidays this year,” she said.
“As a massive fan of cozy games in general, I can’t tell you how excited I am to spend hours upon hours in this, but it was the appeal of Witchbrook‘s magical aesthetic that really captured my attention when it was first revealed all those years ago. It looks beautiful, character customization seems great, and it even features four-player online co-op for those who like adventuring together.”
2025-03-27T15:22:04.020ZI wasn’t the only one keeping up with the Nintendo Direct! Here’s what some of my colleagues from TechRadar are most looking forward to.
First up, Hardware Editor Rhys Wood who is looking forward to the new Tomodachi Life game.
“Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was absolutely the announcement of the show for me,” he said.
“That subtitle is pretty apt actually, because I do feel like I’m living the dream knowing that a new game in this series is on the way for Nintendo Switch and – presumably – Switch 2”
“I first played Tomodachi Life on the Nintendo 3DS, and to this day I think it’s one of the funniest games ever made. Plopping your Miis down on an island with their charmingly warbled text-to-speech created hundreds of scenarios, events, news broadcasts and dream sequences. You never really knew what to expect and I imagine that’s going to be the same with this sequel.”
“I only hope they bring back the ravioli bath; the greatest Mii invention of all time!”

There were some big surprises in this Nintendo Direct. I can’t believe how many meaty reveals there were, especially given how soon the next Nintendo Direct will be.
For me, the most shocking reveal from the show was the new Tomodachi Life game. I love live sims and have been hoping for a series revival. The second pre-orders are available, I’ll be placing one ASAP.
I was also caught off guard by the new Virtual Game Card feature. It sounds very strange, but now that I’ve had some time to think about it, it could be quite cool. I use multiple Nintendo Switch consoles and the current system of having to repeatedly connect your secondary console to the internet in order to verify your ownership is quite clunky.
The Nintendo Today app was also a surprise? Daily updates from Nintendo is pretty exciting and I can’t wait to get it installed later today to see what it’s all about.
2025-03-27T14:39:17.566ZAnd that’s it! In my books, that was an excellent Nintendo Direct. Lots of surprising reveals and some fantastic games to look forward to.
What did you think? Lot us know with a post tagging us on X / Twitter!

2025-03-27T14:35:22.387Z
Tomodachi Life Living the Dream is the official title and it’s coming in 2026! The first new entry in the series for over ten years.
I know a certain X / Twitter user is going to be happy about this…
2025-03-27T14:33:58.639ZA new Tomodachi Life game??? Say what!
2025-03-27T14:33:40.779ZLock in everyone! The last game announcement is here.
2025-03-27T14:33:28.161ZMarvel Cosmic Invasion looks cool! A retro beat-em-up starring Marvel heroes from across the universe. It’s coming in holiday 2025.
2025-03-27T14:32:48.234ZLet’s go! A new Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots, a new entry in the long-running series. This is usually a franchise that’s heavily associated with PlayStation, so I’m definitely interested to learn more.
It’s coming out in 2025.
2025-03-27T14:31:12.415ZMonument Valley and Monument Valley 2, two fantastic mobile puzzle games, are coming to Nintendo Switch!
2025-03-27T14:30:25.366ZThe presentation continues!
A HD remaster of Saga Frontier 2 is on the way. This classic RPG looks stunning on a modern console, updated with brand new events and features. There’s also new characters to team up with in battle, the ability to transfer stats, plus new boss fights.
And it’s available today!
2025-03-27T14:29:18.481ZQuick highlight reel! Here’s what we’re seeing:

Not hardware, but a software feature. Welcome Virtual Game Cards! These are added to your system when you buy a game, and allow you to play a title.
If you own multiple systems, you can transfer them between them like you would a physical game. How bizarre… Maybe some kind of measure to reduce game sharing? Or a cross-generation move with the Nintendo Switch 2 in mind.
Save data will not be erased, which is good to know.
The feature is set to launch in late April.

2025-03-27T14:25:02.303ZOkay this is weird… Some kind of hardware reveal?

That’s confirmed then, a new entry in the series, Rhythm Heaven Groove! It’s coming out in 2026 and I can’t wait to dive in.
2025-03-27T14:23:58.020ZHold up – is that a new Rhythm Heaven game? It certainly looks like it!

New Pokemon trailer! Here’s another look at Pokémon Legends: Z-A and it’s a bit… rough. I’m not the biggest fan of the series, but the visuals here look seriously dated. Hopefully this will be one title that gets lots of Switch 2 enhancements.
The trailer showed off some core mechanics, including Wild Zones and a… battle royale mode?
2025-03-27T14:20:21.409ZNow an adorable look at Tamagotchi Plaza! It looks like a cute take on running your own shop.

We also have a new trailer for RIft of the Necrodancer, showing loads of high-octane rhythm based combat. It looks like a blast!
2025-03-27T14:18:43.333ZKonami is taking you back to the 90s with Gradius Origins, plus a brand new entry in the series – Salamander 3. These are all action side-scrollers with a cool retro aesthetic.

A cool-looking action platformer here in The Eternal Life of Goldman. It’s always great to see an old man protagonist, so sign me up!
2025-03-27T14:16:38.061ZSticking with the cute game theme, we’ve got a trailer for Witchbrook from Chucklefish!
It’ll be available in holiday 2025 and looks like it could be perfect if you were looking for something to fill an Animal Crossing shaped hole in your life.
2025-03-27T14:15:26.876Z
Now onto some more headlines!
Disney Villains Cursed Cafe looks like a fun time, with cool art and loads of iconic characters. It’s available later today.
2025-03-27T14:13:55.201ZThe trailer also showed off a range of psychic abilities for Samus! This lets her open doors and, more excitingly, control her attacks more closely.
No release date yet, but it’s still slated for 2025…
Maybe this will be one that we see again in the Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct?
2025-03-27T14:12:46.941Z
Woah! This is something I didn’t expect. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has received a new trailer and it looks absolutely stunning!
It revealed a new setting, the Planet Viewros, and shows protagonist Samus exploring her surroundings, scanning relics, and using her Arm Cannon to defeat sinister aliens.

Patapon 1+2 Replay… I didn’t see this one coming! This was originally released as a PlayStation Portable game published by Sony.
It sees assume the role of a deity, guiding tribes of ball-like Patapons.

From Bandai Namco we now have Shadow Labyrinth and wait… is that Pac-Man??? This is a little bizarre, but it looks like a cool hack and slash Metroidvania with a sci-fi re-interpretation of our favorite yellow hero.

Oh, here’s a long rumored game!

The first batch of major headlines have begun, kicking off with some kind of creepy title…
No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files. It follows an internet idol trapped in a sinister escape game, with investigation segments and puzzles in equal measure.
2025-03-27T14:02:04.309ZNo release date I’m afraid, but we do know that it’s coming some time in 2025.
2025-03-27T14:01:23.156ZHere it is! The first reveal of the show…
It looks like a new trailer for Dragon Quest 1 & 2HD-2D Remake! Are we going to get a release date?
2025-03-27T13:59:36.331ZJust one minute to go… Hold on to something!
2025-03-27T13:58:09.112ZThe stream hasn’t officially begun, but viewers are already pouring in!
The Nintendo of America stream is currently sitting at 252,509 live viewers, with even more on other regional Nintendo accounts or watching along with streamers.

There is now just 15 minutes to go until the Nintendo Direct begins. Why not use the next few minutes to make sure you have some drinks ready and get comfy?

Here’s a quick prediction as the Direct nears!
I would be very surprised if we don’t see a few new games coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service today.
Such new additions are a regular part of Nintendo Direct presentations as Nintendo generally aims to keep its online service ticking along nicely. In my books, it’s highly likely that there will be some more announced later.
The Nintendo Switch Online service is currently bursting with NES, Super NES, and Game Boy games, plus Nintendo 64, Sega Mega Drive, and Game Boy Advance titles for those with the Expansion Pack upgrade, so keep an eye out for old games from those systems.
2025-03-27T13:30:39.549ZDash here! I’m now full of lunch and back to take over our live coverage… I hope’ you’re getting ready, as the Direct is going to kick off in exactly 30 minutes.

Before leaving, Dash had this to say about the chances of a hardware reveal:
“As this is likely to be the last Nintendo Direct before the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, there’s a slim chance that Nintendo will slip in some last-minute hardware reveals for that older machine.
Nintendo released a Joy-Con charging stand last October, presumably so that players can keep their Joy-Con full of juice once they upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 (which features a new attachment mechanism for its controllers).
The only thing I (Rob) can potentially think of Nintendo doing is perhaps one (or more) last special edition of the Switch OLED console. The player and user base is massive and committed and if there is a bit of a wait until the Switch 2 actually launches then one final special edition could be the perfect hardware gap-plugger.
Maybe we’ll see some other accessories today that are intended to help ease that transition…”
2025-03-27T12:46:37.270ZHello there! This is Rob, Managing Editor of TechRadar Gaming taking over from Dash while he escapes for some food before the big event kicks off in…. only an hour and 15 minutes!

The long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond might be a prominent part of today’s Nintendo Direct.
First announced at E3 back in 2017, a proper look at this long-awaited instalment in the Metroid Prime series seems long overdue.
The last trailer for the game came dropped in June 2024, confirming its full title and showing off some brief cinematic clips – but we haven’t heard a peep about it since.
Nintendo has confirmed that it will be released some time in 2025, so surely more information is going to come out in the next few weeks and months.
The big question is whether the game will be a part of this Direct, or the full Nintendo Switch 2 Direct next month. On one hand, there’s a chance that this will be a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title (with cross-gen Nintendo Switch support too), which means that it would make more sense there.
On the other, Nintendo might want to focus more heavily on larger franchises like Mario Kart with more general appeal.
We’ll just have to wait and see…

It seems almost certain that this will be the last Nintendo Direct devoted entirely to Nintendo Switch software considering the fact that there is more information on the Nintendo Switch 2 just around the corner.
Still, I don’t think that this will be the end of Nintendo Switch game releases or even the system’s presence in Nintendo Direct presentations. Nintendo has a good track record when it comes to supporting their older products even when a successor has been released.
We kept hearing about new Nintendo 3DS games well into the start of the Nintendo Switch’s life and there’s no reason to think this won’t be the case here.
There’s also the possibility of future cross-generation releases, with some games coming to both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 going forward.
2025-03-27T11:57:36.706ZOf course, many gamers are also taking a more humorous approach to their posts. Here are some of the more amusing ones that I’ve spotted so far.

Hopefully there will be at least a crumb of Zelda news today…
How felt nintendo when they announced tomorrows nintendo direct pic.twitter.com/S6T44oVgbmMarch 26, 2025
Having two Nintendo Direct presentations in such quick succession is definitely a strange choice.
When I first heard rumblings of a Nintendo Direct happening earlier this week, I was very sceptical given just how soon after that Nintendo Switch 2 Direct would fall.

As you would expect, Nintendo fans have been flocking to social media to share their hopes ahead of the Nintendo Direct. I’ve been keeping up with the latest posts on X / Twitter to see what everyone’s been talking about.
I’m noticing lots of The Legend of Zelda fans holding out for remasters. Many have been calling for Nintendo Direct re-releases of Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker for years now and this Nintendo Direct could be the last hope of them being announced before the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2.
Others are talking about the potential Kirby: Planet Robobot remaster which, as I’ve already discussed, is definitely plausible and on my personal bingo card too.
I’ve even spotted one fan desperate for a Tomodachi Life 2 reveal. While I would personally love to see a successor to Nintendo’s life simulator, it doesn’t seem too likely. I also think that if one is indeed in the works, it’s more likely to be a Nintendo Switch 2 game – potentially tying into the upcoming console’s rumored new social features.
Everybody join hands in prayer with me for Tomodachi Life 2 at the Nintendo Direct tomorrowMarch 26, 2025
Will any of these sought-after games be featured later? We’ll just have to wait and see.

In some surprising news shortly before the announcement of the Nintendo Direct, the company revealed changes to its Nintendo Music app.
The app, which lets you listen to select video game soundtracks on your mobile phone, now features some new music from classics like Tetris, Dr. Mario, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
Could this hint at some of the things we might see at the Nintendo Direct? It’s not likely, but it’s still interesting nonetheless.

Here’s an important reminder if you haven’t already got the memo: there will be no news about the Nintendo Switch 2 in this presentation.
This was confirmed by Nintendo in the original announcement post, which stated “there will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation.”
If it’s just Nintendo Switch 2 news that you’re after, you’re best off skipping this Direct in favor of the previously confirmed Nintendo Switch 2 direct on April 2, which takes place at 6AM PT.

2025-03-27T10:56:43.310ZWe’re just over three hours until the Nintendo Direct begins, but I’ve got some recommendations for how to prepare.
First, I’d recommend just making a mental note of that start time. If you need a refresher, it’s 7am PT / 10am ET / 2pm GMT, so make sure that you’re free to watch. We also know that the direct will last for roughly 30 minutes, so have that time free.
If you’re not able to follow along to the video live, don’t worry, as I’ll be posting the announcements as they happen in text form. I’ll also be recapping everything after the fact.
Also consider bookmarking the live stream on YouTube. This will make it easy to boot up once that time arrives, ensuring that you won’t miss any of the action.
