In Death of a Unicorn, Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega star as a father and daughter duo who strike a mystery creature while heading to a weekend getaway at the the home of the father’s wealthy boss, played by Richard E. Grant. After hearing some rumbling from outside, the group attempt to sleuth out the “rare” animal.
“I think we know exactly what it is,” Ortega says in the trailer, released Wednesday. “It’s a fucking unicorn.”
After lugging the injured creature to the billionaire boss’ home, Rudd’s character begins to realize the unicorn has life-altering powers.
The Alex Scharfman-directed dark comedy also stars Will Poulter and Téa Leoni. Rudd and Ortega serve as executive producers alongside Ari Aster, who directed Midsommar. Death of a Unicorn will release in Spring 2025.
Ortega is expected to star alongside Charli XCX, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sterling K. Brown, and Natalie Portman in the Cathy Yan-directed film, The Gallerist. The film, which follows a gallerist’s attempt to sell a dead body at Miami’s Art Basel, will begin production by the end of the year. Ortega has also wrapped filming the second season of Netflix’s Addam’s Family spinoff Wednesday and recently starred in the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel and Scream VI.
Rudd’s recent credits include the supernatural sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
