PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have no concerns with the medicals of first-round pick Derrick Harmon. Harmon was flagged with a shoulder issue and taken off some team’s boards entirely, but the Steelers were one of the teams that checked out his shoulder and thought it was more than fine.
The Steelers met with Harmon in Indianapolis and brought him in for a pre-draft visit, during which their doctors examined him and deemed his shoulder to be fine.
“We wouldn’t have picked him unless our medical staff and we were comfortable with it,” Khan said.
Head coach Mike Tomlin added the visit aided the Steelers in alleviating those concerns.
“We had him in at a pre-Draft 30 visit and had an opportunity to get our documents, him in front of our docs, and we were extremely comfortable with that component,” Tomlin said.
Harmon did not miss a game in his final three years of college. The injury arose during the middle of the process. Still, Harmon himself is not entirely sure where the concern originated, as he does not have a history of extensive shoulder issues.
“I don’t know, man, I’m fully up and ready to go. I don’t have any concerns. I’m ready to get to work,” Harmon said.
Harmon has been called ‘the next Cam Heyward’ at times in the NFL Draft process. After a great day of testing at the NFL Combine, those comparisons only ratcheted up.
In Indianapolis, Harmon stood at 6-foot-4, weighing in at 313 pounds. Harmon ran a 4.95 40-yard dash with a 1.74 10-yard split, both great numbers for his size.
