Recap/Analysis: Hornets lay a dud against Clippers

The Charlotte Hornets followed a record setting performance with a pitiful loss to the Clippers, 123-88.

Neither team got off to a particularly impressive start. The teams traded a couple of modest runs for the first few minutes before the Clippers found their groove and the Hornets went in the tank. The only buckets the Hornets made in the last 3-and-a-half minutes of the quarter were a Miles Bridges layup and a straight on three from Marcus Garrett that somehow banked in from above the square.

The Hornets made a meager push towards the Clippers at the beginning of the second, but that quickly fell by the wayside. Kawhi Leonard got going after a quiet first quarter and joined an already surging James Harden in blitzing the Hornets. The visitors again crumbled late in the period and allowed a Clippers highlight show to put the home team up 24 at the half.

The Clippers strolled to a couple easy buckets to start the second half, and that forced a despondent Charles Lee to take a timeout. That turned the game into a total laugher and made the whole of the second half pretty much a preseason game. Neither team played with a ton of intensity. The Hornets continued to miss almost of their jumpers. The Clippers and their professional basketball players made theirs. That’s about all there was to it.

The road trip is over and there are no more games west of the central time zone for the rest of the season.

No players were good.

The Hornets followed the best shooting game in theit history with a dreadful one. They got plenty of open looks, but absolutely no one could make anything. The team went 6-of-33 from deep and not a single player had a decent night on their own.

All of the players were bad.

The Hornets return home for a couple of home games starting with the Hawks on Tuesday.
