Jillian Shriner, a popular author and the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police and arrested for suspicion of attempted murder on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The LAPD said it was attempting to track a suspect in an unrelated hit-and-run when Shriner was spotted in a “neighboring residence” with a handgun, per CNN. Police said Shriner was told to put the handgun down multiple times but refused.
“Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-involved Shooting occurred,” the LAPD said in a release, per CNN. “Shriner was struck by gunfire and fled into her residence. She later exited and was taken into custody.”
CNN said the LAPD was not able to explain why Shriner was holding the gun. It did say it recovered a 9-milimeter handgun form her residence.
CNN reported that Shriner was taken to a hospital and treated for a “non-life-threatening” wound. The site said her bail was set at $1 million.
CNN said one of three male suspects in the hit-and-run incident was detained and eventually released.
Jillian and Scott Shriner have been married since 2005.
