Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marcel Sabitzer has said he is fit to play against Sturm Graz from his former Austrian home town in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Sabitzer limped out of Dortmund’s 2-1 Bundesliga win against RB Leipzig on the weekend. But he told reporters on Monday that “I am doing much better” and that he is “confident for tomorrow.”
Sabitzer, who played for Grazer AK as a boy and teenager, added: “I am from Graz, I grew up there. I have many memories. But it is our mission to win.”
Sabitzer’s availability is the only good news as the injury list of coach Nuri Sahin remains long, and he said “I don’t believe that anyone will return.”
Dortmund are going through a difficult season but the victory against Leipzig ended a run of three straight defeats. In addition, they take a 100% home record into Tuesday’s match, including a 7-1 demolition of Celtic in their first Champions League home game.
Dortmund have six points and Graz zero, but Sahin warned that Graz “have worked extremely well over the past years. It will be very difficult for us tomorrow.”
