- Fans excited for Clive’s inclusion, while some hoped for Tifa may have mixed reactions.
Tekken 8 is adding a new DLC fighter to its roster, this time inviting the Final Fantasy 16 protagonist, Clive Rosfield, to the game. A brief new trailer demonstrates some of Clive’s abilities on the battlefield, and Tekken 8 players won’t have to wait long to try him out for themselves.
Tekken and Final Fantasy have a bit of an established history with each other. Tekken 7 saw the inclusion of Noctis, the main character of Final Fantasy 15, join as a playable character and the title’s third DLC fighter. Hammerhead was also added as downloadable content and served as his home stage. While fans have been hopeful for another Final Fantasy inclusion, many may have been surprised to see Clive appear.

During The Game Awards 2024, a new trailer revealed that Final Fantasy 16‘s Clive Rosfield will be coming to Tekken 8. The Final Fantasy 16 hero will be added as the final character to join the game as part of the Year 1 Character Pass, with a 72-hour early access period starting on December 16. A brief teaser shows Clive entering a blazing battlefield, facing off against Tekken 8 protagonist Jin Kazama. After the two say a few words and sprout a single wing each, they charge into the battle, which Clive quickly dominates.
Clive Brings His Power to Tekken 8
While the gameplay footage is brief, Clive seems like a powerful fighter from what’s been shown. After charging into the fight, he begins to blaze, attacking with his sword and fist, with his wings periodically reappearing as he hovers and air juggles his opponent. After knocking Jin to the ground and surrounding him with a pillar of flame, Clive calls upon Ifrit, who deals a final blow with a massive flaming fireball.
Final Fantasy 16 fans are likely happy to see Clive join Tekken 8, and it may give Tekken fans new incentive to check out the latest of Final Fantasy‘s new entries. However, there are probably some fans of Final Fantasy that are disappointed, too. Many players demanded Tifa be added to Tekken 8 while it was still in development, and some have remained hopeful that she could join later on as DLC. While it’s not completely out of the question for Tekken 8 to include two crossover characters from the same series, it also seems less likely to happen now that Clive has joined the fray. Only time will tell as Tekken 8 progresses past its first year.
