Alexis Reimold scored all 10 of her points in the first quarter to propel unbeaten Hazleton Area to a 30-4 start on the way to a 57-21 victory over Wilkes-Barre Area in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 girls’ basketball, Thursday, at Hughie McGeehan Gymnasium.
Sophia Benyo and Kaitlyn Bindas both added six of their 12 points in the opening quarter as the Lady Cougars coasted to their 18th straight win, ninth in the WVC, and closed in on clinching a conference playoff berth. Jaida Underwood netted nine points for the Wolfpack.
Julie Tejeda’s 14 points and Evelyn Shults’ 10 led the Lady Cougars to a 60-29 win in the junior varsity game.
Hazleton Area will visit Berwick on Monday and play host to Pittston Area on Thursday in the penultimate week of the regular season.
At Wyoming Area. Shannon Kearns and Krea Bonita canned nine points apiece and Abby Sterba had eight points to lead the Warriors past MMI, 43-9, in a Division 2 contest. Freshman Shreeya Parikh paced the lady Preppers with five points, four steals and three rebounds. Olivia Moore had two points and six rebounds and Georgia Washko chipped in two points.
In the Schuylkill League, host Marian rode another balanced scoring attack and a big third quarter to a 46-35 triumph over Lourdes.
That balance was especially evident in the third quarter when Deanna Pugh scored seven points, Olivia Serfass had four and Addy Fritz and Addy Marek drained a three-pointer apiece to ignite an 18-9 run and give the Fillies the separation they needed in the Division II contest.
Pugh, Serfass and Marek each finished with 12 points and Fritz contributed 10 for Marian (18-1, 11-0). Kylla Sandri topped the Red Raiders with 10 points. Onelight Barnes and Hannah Lokitis tossed in eight and six, respectively.
Aubrey Monaghan scored 12 points, Gianna Donovan had 11 and Brianna Tufts 10 as Shenandoah Valley eased past Weatherly, 50-13. Kelly Reiner accounted for nine of the Lady Wreckers’ points.
Ayla Schneck-Haines put in 11 points as Pine Grove held off visiting Tamaqua, 42-40, in Division I action. Lauren Ligenza rimmed 12 and Kolbe Robb added eight for the Lady Raiders.
Also in Division I, Ruby Henninger’s 16 points lifted Blue Mountain to a 47-39 win over Panther Valley. Morgan Orsulak showed the way for PV with 13 points. Natalie Vermillion and Lucy Kocha helped with nine apiece.
In Anthracite junior high girls’ games, Briandy Cordero had the hot hand with 21 points and Crisbel Suarez added 10 as Maple Manor downed Drums, 44-7. Lisnett Pena contributed four for the Lady Vikings. Averi Stringent paced the Lady Tigers with six. Grace Eck chipped in a free throw.
Haley Minzola’s eight points sparked McAdoo-Kelayres to a 20-16 win over West Hazleton. Rosslin Burgos added four for the Lady Mustangs. Arleny Almonte had seven points and Alexa Torres five for the Lady Wildcats.
In freshman boys’ hoops, JJ Lantigua (18 points) and Jose Lopez (14) provided a solid one-two punch as the Hazleton Area Red team beat Wilkes-Barre Area, 64-45.
In junior high boys, Jamaury Vega scored 20 points and Silvester Salazar had 10 to power Heights-Terrace past Hazleton, 42-35. Jayvian Tiburcio led the Mountaineers with 11 points. Adriel Dos Santos and Dangel Aqvasvivad were right behind with 10 apiece.
Brandon Orona (19) and Noah Farley (18) combined for 37 points as West Hazleton beat McAdoo-Kelayres, 42-23. Julian Nivar helped the winners’ cause with three. Daneil Perez topped the Mustangs with nine points. Ethan Diaz added five and Angel Batitsta and Janvel Castro chipped in four apiece.
