Man accused of breaking window, taking money from Melo Coffee & Kitchen

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A man has been arrested and accused of taking money from Melo Coffee & Kitchen on University Avenue Thursday.

RPD said officers responded to the shop for the report of a stabbing around 6:13 p.m. and later learned there was no one was stabbed.

According to police, a 33-year-old Rochester man allegedly smashed the front window of the business, cutting his hand, before he gained entry and took money from a counter. Police said the man then went inside the bathroom of the building before he was quickly arrested.

Police said the business was closed for the day, but there were still employees inside finishing work for the day, and the money was recovered.

The man’s injury to his hand is listed as non-life-threatening, and there were no additional injuries as a result of the incident. He was charged with Burglary (3rd), Petit Larceny, and Criminal Mischief (4th).

Melo Coffee & Kitchen will be closed Friday so the business can fix the damage.
