UFC Mexico City Results, Highlights

Biggest Winner: Ateba Abega

Abega had himself a picture-perfect UFC debut in Mexico City, delivering one hell of a knockout over Jose Medina, thanks to a perfectly-placed knee straight up the pipe that absolutely floored his foe, making it unnecessary for the Contender Series standout to follow up with any strikes. Abega improves his win streak to six in a row, all finishes, and immediately puts the Middleweight division on notice. He also went home $50,000 richer.

Runner Up: Manuel Torres

Torres got back in the win column by delivering a brutal knockout finish over longtime veteran, Drew Dober, in the very first round (see it here). Torres absolutely creamed his opponent with a vicious onslaught of hammer fists that probably shouldn’t have happened if the referee was quicker to step in. Nevertheless, Torres earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus for his efforts and improves to 4-1 inside the Octagon, earning some new-found confidence and momentum, in the process.

Biggest Loser: Drew Dober

With his violent TKO loss at the hands of Torres, Dober has now lost three in a row (his last two via knockout) and is a measly 1-4 in his last five fights. It’s really gone from bad to worse for the longtime veteran, who should be nervous moving forward when it comes time for the promotion to start making it’s next round of cuts. If he doesn’t get a pink slip after this defeat, one more violent defeat like last night’s should more than do the trick.
