This is the UFC Mexico live blog for Brandon Moreno vs. Steve Erceg, the flyweight main event Saturday at CDMX Arena in Mexico City.
Moreno is currently No. 4 at 125 pounds in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, while Erceg sits at No. 13.
A two-time flyweight champion, Moreno has been on a tough run of late. “The Assassin Baby” lost his belt to Alexandre Pantoja in 2023, falling to 0-3 against the reigning champion, and then lost a rematch with Brandon Royval at UFC Mexico last year. Moreno rebounded with a unanimous decision win over Amir Albazi in November and now looks to reinsert himself into the title picture with an impressive win over Erceg on Saturday.
Erceg’s UFC run has been more unusual than most. Joining the promotion in 2023, he immediately made an impact by beating top 15 ranked David Dvorak in his UFC debut. He followed that up with two more wins, including a sensational knockout of Matt Schnell that earned the Australian fighter a title shot against Pantoja in just his fourth UFC fight. Unfortunately for Erceg, he lost a decision to Pantoja and then dropped his rebound fight a few months later, getting knocked out by Kai Kara-France in August. Erceg hopes to avoid a three-fight skid by beating the former champion this weekend.
