Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry didn’t have a good explanation for what happened after going 0-of-7 from the field in Thursday’s 144-93 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

“First time for everything, right?” Curry said to reporters after the game. “I never thought that would be a situation or a result of the game. From the very jump they kind of punched us in the mouth. We didn’t have an answer. … That was kind of embarrassing.”

This marked the seventh time in 977 regular-season games that Curry didn’t make a shot. Four of those games came when he played fewer than 10 minutes. His seven shots against the Grizzlies were his most in a game without a make.

“Damn, that happen,” Green said upon learning about Curry’s stats. “Oh s—. That’s crazy … they did a good job. Give them some credit.”

Curry’s two points on Thursday were his fewest in a game since March 8, 2018. He also scored two points on that night against the San Antonio Spurs, but he only played two minutes before leaving the game in the first quarter after rolling his ankle.

The 24 minutes Curry was on the floor against the Grizzlies were the most he has played in a game without making a field goal.

Golden State’s problems extend far beyond Curry right now. The 51-point loss is the worst margin of defeat for any NBA team in a game this season. It’s also tied for the fourth-largest margin of defeat in a road game in Warriors history.

Draymond Green also went scoreless on four field-goal attempts in 19 minutes. Andrew Wiggins was the only Warriors starter who scored more than five points. Dennis Schröder’s first game after being acquired from the Brooklyn Nets was one to forget. He finished with five points and four turnovers in 22 minutes.

The positive vibes around the Warriors at the start of the season are quickly fading away. They have lost nine of their last 11 games after opening the year 12-3. Thursday was the second straight game the defense has allowed at least 140 points. They gave up 143 to the Dallas Mavericks on Dec. 15.

If Curry isn’t playing at an All-NBA level, the Warriors are finding it very difficult to win games. He will try to get the team back on track on Saturday when they play the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center.
