Welch says ‘good riddance’ to USPS leader

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Harsh parting words from one Vermont senator as the postmaster general steps down.

After five years leading the U.S. Postal Service, Louis Dejoy announced he’s leaving his post.

Senator Peter Welch is not sad to see him go. He said in a statement that Dejoy’s time leading USPS was a disaster for Vermonters and postal workers everywhere.

Welch cites the more than year-long wait for a functioning post office in Montpelier after the previous one flooded in 2023.

Welch says Dejoy’s restructuring plan created delivery delays, especially in rural parts of the state.
