To get to this point, Penn State defeated No. 11 seed SMU, 38-10, in the first round of the CFP and then went on take care of business with a 31-14 victory over No. 3 seed Boise State in the quarterfinal at the Fiesta Bowl.

Notre Dame defeated No. 10 seed Indiana, 27-17, in the first round and then upset No. 2 seed Georgia, 23-10, in the quarterfinal in the Sugar Bowl.

The second semifinal will take place Friday night, when No. 5 seed Texas (13-2) takes on No. 8 seed Ohio State (12-2) in the Cotton Bowl Classic from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

With both the Nittany Lions and Fighting Irish aiming to end a 30-plus year title absences, will it be Penn State or Notre Dame that emerges victorious and is one step closer to ending their national championship drought?
