The 2025 Sugar Bowl has been rescheduled after a horrific New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans killed at least 14 people and injured dozens, an incident the FBI has said it is investigating as an act of terrorism.

The Sugar Bowl, which will feature the No. 2 seed Georgia Bulldogs and the. No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish as part of the College Football Playoff, has traditionally taken place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Bowl officials said Wednesday evening that the postponement was required in the best interest of public safety.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families as we work through this,” said Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley in a press release announcing the schedule change. “We have full faith and confidence in the governor and the mayor and all the federal, state, and local first-responders that they’ve applied to this horrific event. Any time we have an event like the Sugar Bowl, public safety is paramount, and all parties involved agree that could only be achieved with a postponement.”

The violent attack came shortly after 3 a.m. ET on Bourbon Street, the center of New Orleans’ famed nightlife scene. An armed man drove a truck onto the sidewalk and into a large crowd, and later opened fire after the vehicle came to a stop. Investigators said the attack had taken at least 10 lives and injured more than 30 people.
