Although The Athletic reported on two names who are heading to the Bay Area, the rest of the WNBA — players, agents, team personnel and fans — all seem to be playing the waiting game together. Golden State’s picks will start to get revealed on TV at 6:30 p.m. ET, and it is then that everyone involved will learn of the news. For now, opposing teams around the league are still in the dark — anxiously awaiting the news just like everyone else.
“While exciting, can be hard for players as everyone is finding out in real time… and probably will be different emotions to process. Please keep that into consideration..,” Los Angeles Sparks star Dearica Hamby wrote on X earlier Friday.
It is widely expected that there will be aspects of next year’s Expansion Draft different from this December’s event. That is because two teams are entering the league, plus there are currently only two players across the entire WNBA signed to deals into 2026 that are not on rookie-scale contracts. Another part that might change, however, is when players, or teams, are informed they might be on the move (or even before then, if a player learns ahead of time that they were unprotected by their team in the first place).
